This article reports on a clinical trial of hydroxychloroquine in combination with other treatments, that was aptly monitoring cardiac toxicities that are known possible complications of the drug, and pulled one patient off trial whose ECG showed cardiac danger -- this shows how well designed clinical trials work and should be used to study these potential covid treatments:
